Fire Island Rentals
Kismet Rentals
Kismet, Fire Island summer rentals have long been commonplace in the western-most community on Fire Island. Kismet is home to the Kismet Inn and the Kismet Out. Both are restaurants and bars. They are the two main attractions for the community of Kismet as well as the fact that they have a public marina available for boaters on the Great South Bay. If you are looking for a place to have a lot of fun and are looking for some night life as well as beach time this summer, Kismet may be an option for you. The community has mellowed out quite a bit over the past few years and is getting rid of its image as a "party town". In the old days, Kismet was a wide open place to get into trouble at all hours of the day. Today, Kismet has become much more family oriented, but is still a place where you can "get into trouble" if that is what you are looking for.
Saltaire, Fire Island Rentals
One of the more conservative villages or communities on Fire Island, is Saltaire. Saltaire is on the western end of Fire Island between Kismet and Fair Harbor. There are quite a few rules in the Village of Saltaire, and they have earned the community a bit of a reputation. But, Saltaire is probalby the most beautiful community on the island. All wooden boardwalks, village market, small private yacht club and marina and of course the softball field in the middle of town, make Saltaire a great place to spend a summer. Saltaire does not allow "share" houses or houses rented to more than one family. So, you cannot rent a house there with a friend or group of friends.
Fair Harbor Rentals
Faif Harbor is also located on the western end of Fire Island in between the village of Saltaire and Dunewood. Fair Harbor is located just to the east of Clam Pond, Fire Island's only natural harbor. This is a great place to hang out with the locals for "Sunset" on Friday and Saturday nights. Watching the sun set over the eastern edge of Saltaire, Clam Pond and the Great South Bay. Fair Harbor offers a mix between the sophistication of Saltaire and the "free wheeling" attitude of Kismet. There are not as many rules and regulations as you will find in Saltaire, but it is not as crazy as Kismet. There is also a restaurant called Le Dock, liquor store, Pizza delivery, ice cream shop and a hardware store.
